Dogs We’ve Helped

Jerry Joe: DDP + Southwest Oasis Labrador Rescue

Jerry Joe was found at the shelter suffering from severe skin allergies and was facing euthanasia because of it. Despite his extreme itchiness and discomfort, his sweet nature shone through as he allowed us to bathe him, even though it likely wasn't the most pleasant experience for him. We knew we had to act quickly, as allergies should never be a death sentence for a dog.

Thanks to generous donations, we were able to provide the necessary treatment for Jerry Joe's skin allergies and arrange for his care with Southwest Oasis Labrador Rescue.

Jerry Joe has made immense progress and is now thriving in his foster home. He is such a sweet and goofy boy, full of life and love. If you are interested in adopting him, please visit his rescue's website at Southwest Oasis Labrador Rescue.

Nebula (now Lady): DDP + Heart of Infinity

Sweet Nebula was found after tragically being hit by a car and was in urgent need of medical care to heal her broken leg. Desert Dog Project stepped in to provide the necessary funds for her surgery and sourced a rescue partner to take Nebula in.

Now renamed Lady, she is beginning to come out of her shell after initially being extremely shut down and afraid. She is doing exceptionally well in her foster home and will soon be available for adoption through her rescue, Heart of Infinity. For more information, please visit Heart of Infinity.

Bonnie: DDP + Alone No More

Bonnie, an extremely sweet white pittie, was at risk of losing her life due to a torn CCL ligament in her back leg. As a young, silly, and incredibly sweet girl, we knew this couldn’t be the end for Bonnie.

Desert Dog Project, with the help of our incredible donors, was able to fundraise $2500 to cover her CCL surgery. We coordinated her care and found a foster home through Alone No More Rescue.

Bonnie is now thriving in an amazing foster-to-adopt situation, living on a ranch with her doggy siblings, whom she adores!

Boo: DDP + Follow Your Heart

Sweet 2-year-old Boo was placed on the euthanasia list at MCACC due to a femoral head fracture that required surgery. Desert Dog Project quickly stepped in to find a foster home, rescue, and raise the necessary funds for Boo's surgery and medical care.

Boo is now recovering well from her surgery and thriving in her foster home. She has returned to her spunky, silly, and playful self, and her foster family is hopeful to adopt her!

Marcus: DDP + Boxer Luv

Marcus, a senior boxer, quickly became a volunteer favorite at MCACC. Unfortunately, he was placed on the euthanasia list due to a mass discovered when he arrived. With his sweet eyes and playful nature, we knew we had to help him.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, Desert Dog Project was able to raise the funds needed for his medical care. We partnered with Boxer Luv Rescue, who graciously took him in. Thankfully, his mass was removed and found to be non-cancerous.

Marcus is now up for adoption and ready for his forever home. If you are interested in adopting Marcus, please contact Boxer Luv Rescue.

Sully: DDP + Angels for Paws

Julia's encounter with Sully, one of the first dogs she met at County, was designated as "Play Yard only" due to severe mobility issues that prevented him from going on walks. Despite his stiffness and struggles, Sully's big blocky head, unwavering happiness, and a huge smile caught Julia's attention. Inspired to make a difference, she initiated a Go Fund Me campaign to secure a rescue for Sully, uncertain about the cause of his mobility issues and determined to provide him with the necessary medical care.

Through the generosity of supporters, $850 was raised, enabling Julia to connect with the rescue organization Angels for Paws, which agreed to pull Sully for her to foster. A comprehensive medical workup, including X-rays and bloodwork, revealed severe elbow dysplasia and arthritis. With the prescribed pain medication and a regimen of short daily walks, Sully experienced a remarkable improvement in mobility, defying the odds of his initial condition.

The journey took an unexpected turn when Julia, unable to part ways, became a foster failure, and the rest, as they say, is history!

Mako: DDP + One Love AZ

Mako, discovered by a compassionate shelter volunteer outside her apartment, initially appeared as a tiny, emaciated figure, leading us to believe he was just a puppy. Recognizing the urgency of his situation, the volunteer sought assistance and promptly named him Mako, a fitting nod to sincerity in Japanese. Determined to secure immediate medical attention, I successfully raised $3000 for Mako through Four Paws and Friends, allowing him to bypass the county shelter where he might have faced a grim euthanasia deadline.

Under the care of a dedicated foster/finder, Mako embarked on a refeeding plan that proved transformative. Contrary to our initial impression, he turned out to be a resilient 4-year-old weighing only 15 lbs. Mako, now embraced as a One Love pup, is thriving, and his future is destined for nothing but bright and joyful days ahead!

Blue: DDP + Four Paws & Friends

Blue faced a critical euthanasia deadline, and during this precarious period, he suffered a leg injury alongside a severe case of "happy tail." Just in the nick of time, we secured a foster and rescue, pulling him from the brink and saving his precious life. Once Blue found refuge in foster care, a comprehensive assessment revealed the need for a CCL surgery, likely compounded by a potential diagnosis of Valley fever, and the imperative for tail amputation.

Undeterred by the daunting medical expenses, we initiated a successful fundraising campaign, rallying support through the generosity of Four Paws and Friends. Together, we alleviated the financial burden on Blue's rescue, ensuring he received the vital and costly medical interventions necessary for his recovery.

Nyssa: DDP + Love Them All

Nyssa, confronted with a dire euthanasia prospect stemming from an aggressive case of Valley fever that manifested in severe lesions on her toes, also battled a severe upper respiratory infection. Despite the challenging circumstances, Nyssa's captivating presence resonated with people worldwide, sparking a wave of compassion on the internet.

Pooling the collective generosity of caring individuals, we successfully raised substantial funds to support Nyssa's rescue mission. Love Them All stepped in to pull Nyssa from the brink, and with unwavering determination, she bravely fought against her respiratory diagnosis. Now, Nyssa not only survived but is thriving in a foster-to-adopt environment, embodying the triumph of resilience and the power of collective goodwill.

Rick, an extremely sweet dog who had bounced around the shelter for nearly a year before becoming part of the One Love AZ family, unfortunately sustained very serious injuries after getting in a fight with his foster sibling when his foster parents were out of town. One Love immediately sprung into action to get him to an emergency vet, as they knew that it was worth whatever it took to get Rick feeling better. With the help of Desert Dog Project, One Love Arizona was able to raise over $6,000 needed for Rick’s medical care, which included an overnight stay, several drains and stitches. Rick is now fully recovered and living his best life!

Rick: DDP + One Love AZ

Nippsey and Kobe were found running loose without collars in Buckeye, AZ and found by cofounder Halle’s brother, Ryan. They had been reported as far as 6 miles away from where they were found via Ring app photos and had been running scared all night. Ryan found them starving, thirsty and distressed; so immediately asked for DDP’s help after convincing the dogs it was safe to come in his backyard.

DDP immediately sprung to action by checking for a microchip, reporting them missing, posting flyers around town and to social media. We were able to reunite both dogs to the ex-girlfriend of their former cruel owner; who intentionally let them loose due to financial issues. They are now in a loving home, reunited with their loving mother & human siblings. Incredibull Stella offered to cover the costs of neutering, and DDP raised funds to allow the family to re-purchase dog supplies, as well as get them microchipped.
